Chowara Sreedharmasastha Temple is one of the ancient temples in south India. It is situated at Chowara,Vizhinjam Thiruvananthapuram District,Kerala,India. Lord Sree Dharma Sastha is the main deity of this temple.Makaravilakku, the annual festival of this temple bears a unique status. It comes in the month of January every year. As per the Malayalam Era, the first day of the Makaram Month is celebrated as the Makaravilakku in the temple. This is an occasion when the entire city becomes focused on the temple. The streets are made colourful on the festival days with colourful processions. Tender coconut frond and plantain leaf-stalks are also used for street decoration.
